Simon Sinek Start With WHY

Last night I was fortunate enough to have a half an hour discussion with one of my favourite leadership coaches Simon Sinek on what it means to be a truly successful leader.

Simon is a “one of a kind” leader that oozes awesome and very insightful advice on what it takes to be a successful individual in this world by leading with your heart.

You may have seen Simon Sinek’s very interesting and super viral TED Talk, How Great Leaders Inspire Action”. Now, through this interview, you will have the chance to get to know a little bit more about the mad genius himself and what makes him tick.

If you haven’t already, make sure you get your hands on both of his books: “Start With Why” and “Leaders Eat Last”, they are two must have reads in any serious entrepreneurs library.

8 Unforgettable Simon Sinek Quotes

“When we tell people to do their jobs, we get workers. When we trust people to get the job done, we get leaders.” – Simon Sinek

“A team is not a group of people that work together. A team is a group of people that trust each other.” – Simon Sinek

“Dr. King gave the “I have a dream” speech not the “I have a plan” speech. It’s our dreams that change the course of history.” – Simon Sinek

“Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first.” – Simon Sinek

“Leadership is not a rank or a position, it is a choice – a choice to look after the person to the left of us & the person to the right of us.” – Simon Sinek

“Vision” is the ability to talk about the future with such clarity it is as if we are talking about the past.” – Simon Sinek

“The leaders who get the most out of their people are the leaders who care most about their people.” – Simon Sinek

Great interview. Short sweet and to the point. I am a huge fan of the Ted Talk “How Great Leaders Inspire Action” and recently I caught an episode of Reinvention Radio that had an interview with Simon Sinek and Steve Olsher. I was moved more by the backstory that Simon was just going around speaking and speaking for almost 3 years before being offered the book deal and coincidentally offered the Ted Talk spot around the same time.

I am moved by what he says and it had changed my life when I first heard the signature speech but the more that I hear him in different interviews the more I am moved to find more of them. I will watch your “How To Lead The Way To Success” next. And, if you talk to Simon, please tell him that I would love to have him on my show as a guest for BetterMarketingMondays. I disagree with the concept that we only have one “Why” in our life. Some people have a professional career that is very important to them. For example, they are a social worker for example because they are motivated to help people who are struggling with addiction or HIV. At some point maybe their life is changed — for example by having children. Raising their children becomes the most important thing in their life. This is just one example, but other life changing events can change people’s why.

If ever we were living through VUCA times, it’s now. VUCA stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Chaotic, and Ambiguous. The financial markets are volatile and the economic crisis we’re facing is unprecedented. It seems like every day we get conflicting news about the pandemic. First we’d get symptoms in five days, then fourteen, and lastly we were told five again. It can be transmitted if you’re asymptomatic, then it can’t. Countries re-open, then have to shut down again as cases spike. Masks help, or they don’t, depending on who you listen to. It’s frustrating to know what information to trust, when everyone has an opinion about something that nobody really knows enough about. (more…)

Back in the days when I held a job as a Banking Officer in a small bank, I had the task of packaging credit requests from small businesses and presenting them for management approval. After a year or so and several approvals under my belt, I felt a sort of guru at credit. So, I was lost for words when my boss took a less than complimentary opinion on a particularly tricky credit approval memo that I spent over three days writing. (more…)
