The Law of Attraction recently captured my attention again when I watched The Secret on Netflix on July 19, 2020.

Although I’ve written about it before in various formats across my award-winning books, I felt inspired to explore it more deeply here for the benefit of new readers and those curious about how this principle works in everyday life.

Interestingly, many high-profile figures such as Larry King, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Jim Carrey, and Arnold Schwarzenegger have credited the Law of Attraction with helping them achieve extraordinary success. So what exactly is it, and how can you make it work for you?

What Is the Law of Attraction?

“Be careful the environment you choose, for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose, for you will become like them.” – W. Clement Stone

We’ve all heard the saying, “Birds of a feather flock together.” The principle is simple: like attracts like. Good people attract good people. Success attracts success. Conversely, negativity tends to pull in more negativity. This is the Law of Attraction in action.

At its core, the Law of Attraction is the idea that your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have the power to shape your reality. What you focus on intentionally or not has a way of manifesting in your life. If you focus on positivity, abundance, and opportunity, you’re more likely to experience those things. On the other hand, if you dwell on scarcity, fear, or negativity, you may find more of the same coming your way.

The 7 Laws of Attraction

To dive a little deeper, here are the seven key components often associated with the Law of Attraction:

  1. Unwavering Desire – Clearly knowing what you want.

  2. Conceptualization and Imagination – Visualizing your desired outcome in detail.

  3. Affirmation – Reinforcing your goals with positive statements and beliefs.

  4. Focused Confidence – Maintaining a steady focus with trust in yourself and your vision.

  5. Profound Belief – Truly believing it’s possible and that you’re worthy of it.

  6. Gratitude – Practicing thankfulness for what you have and what’s to come.

  7. Manifestation – Taking inspired action and allowing the results to unfold.

The Law of Attraction follows a three-step approach: Ask. Believe. Receive.

This simple framework has ancient roots and has been echoed by sages, saints, and spiritual leaders throughout history.

Making the Law of Attraction Work for You

Here are some tools and mindset shifts to help the Law of Attraction work in your favor:

  • Improve Your Attitude. A positive outlook lays the foundation for positive outcomes.

  • Believe in Yourself. Confidence is key. If you don’t believe, it won’t happen.

  • Avoid Negative Influences. Limit time with people and places that drain your energy.

  • Surround Yourself With Positivity. Seek out uplifting company and environments.

  • Strengthen Your Internal Locus of Control. Take ownership of your thoughts and actions.

  • Sharpen Your Focus and Concentration. Stay clear on what you want and avoid distractions.

  • Declutter Your Mind. Let go of toxic thoughts and create space for growth.

  • Celebrate Others. Compliment and praise those around you to cultivate positive energy.

  • Practice Daily Gratitude. A grateful heart is a magnet for abundance.

Remember: Energy flows where attention goes. What you focus on expands.

How to Achieve Your Goals

To truly harness the Law of Attraction in achieving your goals:

  1. Get Clear on What You Want. Write your goals down with intention and clarity.

  2. Visualize Daily. Picture yourself already living your goal.

  3. Take Consistent Action. Dreaming is important, but doing is essential.

  4. Stay Committed. Success rarely happens overnight. Keep showing up.

  5. Believe Wholeheartedly. Align your beliefs with the outcome you desire.

Whether your goal is to improve your health, attract meaningful relationships, or achieve career milestones—even something as ambitious as winning a Nobel Prize—it all begins with clarity, belief, and aligned action. The universe responds to the energy you put out.

Treat people how you would like to be treated. This simple principle encourages compassion and respect, two qualities every effective leader must demonstrate.

4. Avoid Micromanagement

Micromanaging stifles creativity and damages morale. Great leaders see themselves as partners, not just bosses, and treat their teams as collaborators working toward a shared goal.

5. Empower Employees to Grow

Empowerment means giving employees responsibility that matches their capacity, and then trusting them to deliver. Encourage them to take calculated risks, learn from mistakes, and problem-solve independently. If something goes wrong, turn it into a learning opportunity, not a reprimand.

True leaders grow other leaders. Provide mentorship, career guidance, and stretch opportunities so employees can develop new skills. Leadership is learned through experience, but guided experience is even more powerful.

9. Eliminate Favoritism

Avoid cliques and office politics. Decisions should be based on facts and fairness, not gossip. Objective, transparent decision-making builds credibility.

Recognition often matters more than rewards. Publicly appreciate employees’ contributions and do so consistently and fairly. A timely “thank you” can be more motivating than a quarterly bonus.

When employees leave, treat it as an opportunity to learn. Keep interviews confidential and use the insights to improve management practices and culture.

12. Provide Leadership Development

Train managers to lead, not just supervise. Leadership development programs help shift mindsets from “command and control” to “coach and empower.” This transformation has a direct impact on morale and retention.

13. Adopt Soft Leadership Principles

Today’s workforce, largely millennials and Gen Z, value collaboration over hierarchy. Soft leadership focuses on partnership, mutual respect, and shared purpose, rather than rigid top-down control.

The challenge? Employers and employees often view these priorities differently. Bridging that perception gap is just as important as bridging the relational gap between leaders and staff.
