The Answer Is This: Give It Away For Free.
I have no payment walls on my website.
You can message me for free 24/7.
There is no 30-day course with a one-time special offer.
My eBook is free. You don’t even need to leave your email address.
That last one is important and I want to highlight it. Many people give away a free eBook to capture email addresses and subscribers. I’d like to do that too but in the end, I don’t want to force or trick people to do it.
My web developer asked me an interesting question the other day:
“Tim, do you want to make your free eBook signup form require a valid email address?”
My answer: “No way man.”
“Give the eBook to them even if they give a fake email. In fact, give them the eBook even if they enter no email address and give me nothing.”
The most common question I get.
I get this series of questions all the time and they are almost all saying the same thing.
“How do I increase the revenue of my business?”
“How do I build a following?”
“How do I connect with people who have influence?”
“How do I be successful?”
My answer always starts with this: give it all away for free.
None of those questions can be answered unless you do something, do it well, and start off by giving it away for free.
“Once people respect you and you’re adding value to the world, then you can easily monetize that in an ethical way that doesn’t compromise your values”
The problem is this: it’s all about you.
The reason people ask me these questions above is because it’s about what they want and it’s about themselves. Giving it all away for free is about doing something for someone else without expecting anything in return.
“If all you care about is yourself then success, influence, a business or whatever else you crave will never bloody happen”
Quit focusing on you. Tough love is what I do. Tough love baby.
Find a way to do something valuable and then give it away for free.
These four questions people ask me about getting what they want all start with giving it away for free. My answer is almost always going to be this.
Let’s practice the strategy one more time:
Step One: Do something valuable for someone other than yourself
Step Two: Give it away for free
Step Three: Repeat the first two steps
Step Four: You’ll get the desired result if you keep doing it
That’s the big strategy people. The way you get what you want is to give something that’s valuable away for free. It’s the seed to everything. It’s how you know what worked and what didn’t. It’s how you find your fans, followers and future customers.
Your promise of free must be genuine.
There’s a lot of BS on the internet, let’s face it.
That’s why to stand out and get what you want, you don’t just have to give people what they want, you have to be also genuine about it.
The moment you “fake it” or pretend, or be incongruent with yourself, all of your hard work comes undone. If you’re serious about following my advice, then be real and genuine about it.
Don’t mislead people.
Don’t say something you don’t mean.
If you’re not ready to go free, then stop right now.
The whole “free thang” may not be your cup of hot chocolate and I get it. If that’s the case, you’re not ready perhaps. Achieving your goals and getting what you want takes huge amounts of:
– Personal development
– Emotion
– Ability to connect with humans on a deep level
This stuff doesn’t happen overnight, so there’s a chance you’re not ready. That’s okay. Let’s not have a cry about it. Instead, practice your craft and work on yourself.
You’ll eventually get to a stage where the “give it away for free” idea makes perfect sense.
There is no shortcut.
Giving stuff away for free is also not a shortcut.
Like I’ve said a hundred times: There is no shortcut!
Whether you choose my strategy of free or not, it’s going to take a very long-time amigo to do anything that makes a huge impact. Heck, I’ve still got a very long way to go myself!
That’s why I encourage you to forget the shortcuts and focus on doing the one thing that makes you fulfilled and achieves the purpose (or insert other cliché self-improvement word to describe youe why) you have set for your life.
Again, there’s no overnight success.
Give it all away for free. Do it.
