Look around you and you will see successful people everywhere. They are the ones hogging the limelight and they make the decisions which make the world go round. Yet, they weren’t born this way. They worked hard and persevered for years before reaching a position where they live life on their terms.

Now, while every successful person is unique, there are some traits which are common in all of them. Here’s a look at a few of those:

1. They embrace persistence

Did you know Bill Gates tried to sell the idea for a traffic data business before founding Microsoft? If he had dwelled on his failure, he wouldn’t be the richest man on the planet.

Successful people know that luck can be shaped and twisted with hard work, and if they keep pushing themselves forward despite of the initial failures. They know that good things don’t come easy, and aren’t afraid to cross the bridges for the same.

Learn from failures but don’t let them burden you. If you mess up a project, work extra hard on your next project and ensure its success.

“The key of persistence will open up any door that has been closed by resistance.” – John Di Lemme

2. They are aware of their thoughts

Unlike the masses that get easily influenced by the external ideas, the successful entrepreneurs are well aware of their thoughts and work hard to accomplish their respective objectives. They have active control over the cognitive process indulged in learning and once they know the thoughts that are leading to a particular result, they get the power to change them as per the need.

The process of being aware of one’s thoughts is known as “metacognition”. Become aware of your thoughts and upgrade them accordingly to manifest better results.

3. They set real goals they can achieve

Their goals are focused. They wake up every morning with a new plan in their mind and they make things happen in a planned manner while others spend all day scrambling to figure out what step they need to take next. They know what they have and what they can accomplish. They invest all their efforts into accomplishing their goals.

Set small goals, such as a financial goal for this year. Once you achieve it, you will have the confidence to achieve bigger and better things.

4. They bend the trends

Computing was gaining popularity by the time Steve Jobs created Apple. However, instead of following the trail marked by the renowned adepts of that time, he experimented with the design and functionality of his own device, and today, Apple is a tech giant.

Another important trait worth mentioning is that successful people know how to bring change in the world instead of being affected by it. They know that if you do nothing and avoid the trends, you will be left behind and that’s why they keep coming up with new ideas and thoughts. This is why they are able to come up with new ideas that become trends over time, rather than following the current trends.

Constantly look for ideas to change and improve yourself and the things around you. Eventually, you will find something that you can call your own creation.

5. They are lifelong learners

They are the ones who believe the learning process is not limited to high school and college. Successful people always yearn to learn and constantly learn new things and enjoy new experiences. They are not afraid of attempting new things. It is the undying inquisitiveness and curiosity that helps them keep learning their entire lives and create unimagined solutions as a result.

Keep learning from failures and experiences. You are never too old to create and never too old to learn something new.

6. They know success isn’t always from taking big risks

It is often said that successful people are the risk-takers; however, ask the adepts and no one would advise you to put everything at stake just to be successful. The first thing that the successful people so is that they limit their potential losses before taking a risky plunge.

They learn the art of managing the associated risks and acceptable losses so that they don’t have to stare down in fear to be successful.

Calculate your potential risks and plan strategies to minimize them before diving in headfirst.

“Successful entrepreneurs are actually quite risk-averse” – Paul B. Brown

7. They don’t dwell on the past

It is better to ask yourself what you have achieved yet and what you aim to achieve further. Successful people are always seeking betterment in their lives and in their careers and this constant desire for a better tomorrow keep them vigorous in their work and other aspects of their lives.

Look for ways to enhance your skills, even if it means going back to the basics.

As you can see, these are traits which you can develop over time. All it takes is vision, effort, and resilience and you can map your own destiny to achieve what you want.
