You don’t have to look very far to see a post, article, or video about what it takes to build a business. The advice ranges from “build with balance” to “hustle until you die or you’re not trying.”

With over 4.5 billion daily users on the Internet, it is an exciting time for entrepreneurs, and those wishing to generate income through non-traditional means. With millions of people having lost their jobs due to various circumstances, the non-traditional options — such as entrepreneurship — become even more appealing.

A business can be a fantastic avenue to create freedom, financial security, and a lasting impact on those the business serves. However, some other areas and experiences create success in a person’s life. In the desire to build a business that is discussed, too many business owners neglect all the other areas of their life that make them happy and complete.

Here are four areas of a person’s life that make building a business even easier while helping them experience the fullness life offers.

1. Savor every healthy relationship

The relationships in your life can be exciting and sometimes frustrating. The unhealthy relationships in your life distract your focus. They derail your progress as you’re always thinking about all that’s wrong. And, they mess with your energy as your feelings and emotions are all over the place.

Healthy relationships do the opposite. They give you strength, courage, and the support that allows you to be you. They help you take action, dream bigger, and strive for more. Healthy relationships can be neglected in the pursuit of building a business. If you’d like a more fulfilled journey to success, step away from the hustle to savor the healthy relationships.

Call those you can’t see enough. Hug and kiss those that are in your proximity. Don’t take for granted that there will be a tomorrow to show affection to those you love. Tomorrow is not promised, and life is precious. Be there for your healthy relationships because they will support the building of your business the most.

“Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something: they’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take.” – Tony Robbins

2. Be madly in love with your body

The one asset that helps a person get the most out of life is their body. The sad thing is that we don’t treat our bodies in a way that shows the respect it deserves. If you’re going to accomplish your goals in any day, you’ll need energy. Full days require your body to function at peak levels. Whether it’s doing business tasks, enjoying healthy relationships, being there for family, or even doing the dishes, your body affects all outcomes.

Getting more out of life means treating your body as if it’s a fancy supercar. You give it the proper fuel — eat and drink healthy. You move it regularly — exercise and other forms of physical movement. You do regular maintenance — self-care routines and plenty of YOU time.

Your body is an area of life that’s easy to neglect, but it’s one of the primary keys to living a long and fulfilled life. Want to grow a business? Have better relationships? Accomplish more? Treat your body with love and tender care.

3. Say NO to everything that doesn’t serve you

Too often, we say yes when everything inside of us is screaming NO freaking way. That could be working on business all hours of the day. Letting people have time and energy for no good reason. It means agreeing to do things we don’t want to do.

Life is meant to be lived. It should be filled with more moments of pure bliss and less obligation-laden experiences. Saying yes to things that don’t serve keeps you from spending your time, energy, and resources on what you should.

It’s not just saying no to obvious things — it’s listening to your intuition and saying no to those experiences and opportunities that don’t feel aligned. That could mean business tasks, relationships, and past goals that are not right for where you’re going.

“It’s only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.” – Steve Jobs

4. Treat yourself better than you treat those you love the most

There is a line in Demi Lovato’s song, ‘I Love Me,’ that says: “Why am I always looking for a ride or die? ‘Cause mine’s the only heart I’m gonna have for life.” The song is about why a person should love themselves more than they love everyone else.

When it comes to building a business, people tend to give themselves grace when things don’t go as planned. When it comes to how we treat ourselves with personal goals, we tend to be impatient, harsh, and not understanding. Living a full and successful life happens when you learn to respect yourself for how you are and what you’re capable of. It’s not what you accomplish — it’s the effort you make and your desire to be the best version of yourself.

Be kind to yourself. Implement more self-care into your life. Embrace what makes you who you are. Treat yourself as if you’re the most significant project you’ll ever work on because you are.

It’s a great time to build a business — it’s an even better time to build yourself. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself and living a fulfilled life. There’s more to life than business — there’s life to be lived.
