5 Ways to Make Every Day Powerful

5 Ways to Make Every Day Powerful

There’s no hope for this. There’s NO way this is going to happen! I’ve tried everything… and nothing is working. Forget it, I give up. Ever been there?  Have you ever felt like all you are doing is running forward blindly, barreling into an unseen wall and bouncing off?  You get up, shake off the hurt and run forward again only to hit the same wall once more. Amazingly, this can go on and on as there seems to be some deep seeded belief that this is just how life is. That you just have to suck it up and power through it.

But it sure gets tiring and painful, bloodying yourself on that wall, doesn’t it? Eventually there becomes an overwhelming desire to just sit down and rest for a bit. To lick your wounds, to maybe just “think” for a while about the situation that has become so HOPELESS. And right there is where so many dreams die, where so many good ideas go unrealized. Because most never get back up again. They are totally unaware of just how close they are to the success they are seeking.

Take heart, you aren’t alone in this challenge of hitting that sneaky wall. but, it is up to you what happens next; the death of your dream or coming up with another path around the wall instead. The key here is that feeling of hopelessness you’ve developed. It has to go! You MUST have hope in the future for success to be realized.

“When there is no hope in the future, there is no power in the present.” – John C. Maxwell

But how do you have hope when the walls seem so high, your physical and mental efforts are taxed and your nose and knees are bloody?  Maxwell has actually given you the formula, but you have to look closely. Read it from the end to the beginning instead.

So, let’s look at five ways you can put power into your present and birth hope for your future:

1. Associate with the right people

Surround yourself with those who have already climbed that wall. Surrender your ways of blindly running and instead follow the path these mentors will gladly map out for you. Additionally, take inventory of everyone you currently spend time with.  Separate from those with negative attitudes or that aren’t supportive of your goals. The harsh reality of this is that these people may very well be the ones that are closest to you.

2. Create and stick to a morning ritual

Begin each day with time dedicated only to you. Fill it with a combination of exercise, prayer, meditation, affirmations and goal review.  Cultivating the habit of starting with accomplishments rather than setting out immediately on the run develops a tone of expectation and focus for the day ahead.  The amount of time you spend is much less important than simply following through on the commitment each day.

3. Carefully choose and limit the media you consume

These days you are bombarded with information from every direction; TV, radio, email, social media and more.  It is simply more than your mind can cope with. The resulting “infoxication” overwhelms your cognitive processing ability thereby decreasing your capability to think and act clearly. The more you limit your exposure to this information glut, the more mental energy and focus you will have for handling things that matter to you most right now.

4. Read good books

The knowledge of the world is literally right at your fingertips. Many of the greatest minds, past and present, have written books about their lives and crafts. Read daily and your mind will be filled with the wisdom, encouragement and guidance of the ages.  Further, a book can serve as a faithful mentor when you are unable to connect with one face to face.

5. Lighten up on yourself

Realize that most of the daily struggles you have are not near as serious as you make them out to be.  They really are just the hassles, challenges and hardships that make up life’s experience, not disasters of the worst sort. You must take time everyday to laugh, especially at yourself and the crazy, messed-up stuff that you do. Realize that being human means you are fallible and that is normal. Don’t take yourself or your day so seriously.

“When we make our present powerful, there becomes a rising glimmer of hope for the future.” – Tom Ziglar

Now it is your turn, in the comments below, tell us how you put power into your present so you can maintain your future hope.

    Some days you get highly inspired and other days you’re back to a normal routine… I think meditating before you embark on any task is really worth it with so much pressure to succeed. Thanks. – Doug

      So right, Morobi! And the great thing about meditation is that there are so many ways to do it and so few tools (or no tools at all) needed. So it can be done anywhere and at any time. It takes some time to master but it is so worth the effort! thanks for your comment!!

    When I heard that the media is clouding the minds of people to keep us negative, I thought “what is this guy smoking?” but I am open minded and gave it a try. WOW! I am blown away at how my life changed.
    I also got addicted to books, especially ones where you can learn from others who already had a similar journey and not to make the same mistakes.
    These 5 tips are excellent and I live by them.
    Thanks for sharing and reminding me.

      Couldn’t agree more Haupt! other than with “breaking event” like we just had in Paris, I haven’t regularly watched a news show in YEARS. I’m so much happier for it too! More time to read!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Nice article.. All the above things are important to be followed. The one I am struggling to make it for a long time is “Creating morning rituals”. I keep on trying to follow them but at some point I lose it and getting back normal routine. Anyhow I will try it and achieve it . Thanks for the article.

      Thanks for reading Shunmuga! Certainly the morning ritual takes a lot of self discipline to perfect. I’ve been “working on it” for a long time myself. Some days are better than others for sure, but the effort is worth reward for sure. Keep working at it!

    These are great tips. Especially with media, because it makes us assume that what celebrities do are important when it’s not. We need to focus more on our own lives rather than others. And reading books is very powerful, unfortunately schools make us hate reading. Once we become aware of these problems, then we will see more success in our lives.

      Glad you enjoyed the article Nick, thanks for reading! you know, I’ve had a lot of fun poked at me over the years for being so illiterate about pop culture! No matter though… I’ve found that being ignorant of what the celebrities are up to leaves me so much more brain space for taking care of ME and my goals. Not to mention the time you gain for reading when you aren’t consuming all that “media”. Thanks for your comments!

We all have a God-given destiny to fulfill that we were each born with. I personally believe it is buried deep down within us. The number one secret to success is to let it emerge out of you and release it to the world. What is my destiny you may ask? It is the thing you would regret not doing before leaving Planet Earth. Don’t Want To Feel Like A Failure Anymore? Stop Doing These 6 Things

Published

on

Image Credit: Unsplash

It’s pretty annoying isn’t it? All those great and accomplished people telling you that FAILURE is a necessity on your way to success. Yeah, that’s easy for them to say; they’re already ‘on the other side’! You on the other hand, are still struggling all day everyday to get your business lifted off the ground and are really not that sure if you’re indeed going to make it.

There’s that little voice in your head that keeps telling you that you don’t have the stuff to make it all happen. Not now and not ever. You feel like a failure…it’s holding you back and you don’t know how to deal with it. Well you could do yourself a favor and start dealing with it by doing the following things:

1. Stop Denying You Feel Like A Failure

Telling yourself things are going great when they’re not is one of the biggest, though most useless, coping mechanisms human beings deploy in rough times. Common denial signals among entrepreneurs: trying to regain more control by working even more hours and on the other side compensating this by letting go of all this control by partying and drinking way too hard.

What you’re doing is denying yourself the opportunity to actually feel what’s going on and acknowledge the problem; that both you and your business are in a bad place. Without acknowledging it, it’ll be pretty difficult to actually STOP feeling it. And remember, just because you feel like a failure, this does not mean that you indeed ARE a failure!

2. Stop Making It Bigger Than it Really Is

This is one of those other ‘fun’ things human beings do; we blow things way out of proportion in our heads! In business, when you lose that big client you’ve been working on for weeks, it feels like it’s the end of the world. You start doubting yourself, your strategy, your entire business model right up to the point where you barely sleep because you’re working on pivoting the whole thing.

But what if that customer simply didn’t have the money to go for your service anyway? Or what if they just decided to go for someone who is cheaper but who offers less quality? Does that mean there’s something wrong with YOU? Or that this was the ONLY customer out there and that you’re now doomed forever?

Of course not, it simply means that THIS CUSTOMER wasn’t a match. It’s a bit like dating actually…So if you take this into consideration, could it be that you just feel like a failure instead of really not succeeding in that what you want to at this point in time?

3. Stop Thinking You’re The Only One Who Feels Like This

You’re not! With the possible exception of the true sociopaths, that feeling you’re feeling is very normal to EVERYONE. It might not seem like it on the outside – because people don’t like to acknowledge this remember – but I can guarantee you that it’s true. But unlike 99% of the world’s population, YOU’RE not going to let this feeling stop you in your tracks. Are you?

4. Stop Thinking You’re Supposed To Be Superhuman

In fact, it’s very likely that you’re already doing, learning and succeeding at WAY more than most other people are. But for entrepreneurs, somehow, that never seems to be enough. You don’t just want to be successful after a few years of hard work (which is normal). You want to be successful after only a few months. Because you’re special…or at least you think you are…

Well, here’s the truth: you ARE special! But…it’s just not very likely that you’re one of those – very very rare – entrepreneurial superstars that – seemingly – just added some hot water and got instant business success as a result.

5. Stop Being So Incredibly Stubborn

Entrepreneurs are stubborn…almost by default. It’s what makes them push forward in the hardest of times. But…if you’re not doing the right things right you might just be hammering a square peg through a round hole. Which will only add to that frustrated feeling you’re already having. So why not stop being so stubborn for a moment, stop hammering away on that what obviously is not working and ask for help?

No matter who you ask – a business mentor or coach, a befriended entrepreneur – someone with a neutral perspective on you and our business will be very likely to see what’s going on with a lot more clarity than you can and can guide you to a place that will feel a whole lot more comfortable.

6. Stop Being Afraid Of Failure

I know, I know, you’ve heard this a million times before and you wouldn’t be in this pickle if you could do this. Right? I’m right there with ya!

But, if you get really rational about it, what’s the worst that could happen?

  • You might have to get a ‘real’ job for a while and start over on the side;
  • You might not be able to afford your rent anymore…but with Airbnb on the 1 hand and couchsurfing on the other, you should be able to work it out somehow;
  • You’ll have all the more experience to start over a whole lot faster;
  • You’ll be no less respected by anyone because it’s clear you gave it your all;
  • In a few years, when you’re an established and supersuccessful entrepreneur you’ll also have a cool failure story to tell;
  • None of your limbs will fall off;

Now that’s not too bad for a plan B is it? Failure is such a negative word. And the associated feeling is terrible and numbing. But really…how is giving it your all and not succeeding really the same as failing? Shouldn’t the definition of failure not be along the lines of ‘not even trying’ or ‘giving up when it gets hard’?

In other words: stop beating yourself up over this!

There’s really no need to feel like a failure at all because you’re sticking your neck out, you’re trying to make a difference and you’re still moving upward on that treacherous entrepreneurial mountain.

And that…is what success REALLY is.
